l’oued de la Naïade

«l’oued de la Naïade» means ‹dry valley of the Naiad›. Wadis are courses of rivers, that carry water only temporarily. The word wadi derives from the Arab and is commonly used in the deserts of North Africa. My music links the label with the metaphor of the Greek mythology according to which Nymphs die if the well over which they stand sentinel runs dry. The piece traces the fragility which delimits the ridge between being and nonbeing. The interplay of flowing and withering is, if you will, the ‹theme› of my composition. The trio «l’oued de la Naïade» originates from my «Naiad» work series and straight from the second movement of «tarir une Naïade», for violine and piano, a work from 2012/2013.

»l’oued de la Naïade« bedeutet in etwa ›Trockental der Quellnymphe‹. Wadis sind Flussläufe, die nur zeitweise Wasser führen. Das Wort stammt aus dem Arabischen und ist insbesondere in den Wüstengebieten Nordafrikas gebräuchlich. Meine Musik verknüpft die Bezeichnung mit dem Bild aus der griechischen Mythologie, wonach Nymphen sterben, wenn die Quelle über die sie wachen versiegt. Das Stück spürt dabei jener Fragilität nach, die den Grat zwischen Sein und Nichtsein absteckt. Dieses Wechselspiel aus Fließen und Vertrocknen ist, wenn man so will, das ›Thema‹ meiner Komposition. Das Trio »l’oued de la Naïade« entspringt meiner Najaden-Werkreihe und unmittelbar dem zweiten Satz aus »tarir une Naïade«, jenem Werk für Violine und Klavier, welches 2012/2013 entstand.
