Recording of «Drei nautische Stillleben» to be presented in Ö1 Zeit-Ton on May 16
The Austrian public radio station Ö1 will present the recording of the Ensemble Kontrapunkte’s concert from April 17, 2023 at the Musikverein, Vienna. Under the direction of Gottfried Rabl, two new works for large ensemble were premiered, Martin Bjelik’s «Schattenbilder II» and my composition «Drei nautische Stillleben» for mezzosoprano and ensemble. The soloist part in my work was sung by Elsa Janulidu.
Moreover two works by the American Pulitzer Prize winning composer Joseph Schwantner were staged in Austria for the first time by the Ensemble Kontrapunkte on April 17. Ö1 will broadcast the recording on May 16 at 11:03 PM in their radio programme «Zeit-Ton». The programme will be available online at oe1.orf.at for one week.
New pieces for the piano by Richard Düner, Gianluca Iadema and Christoph Renhart have recently been released on CD by the label VMS. The radio station Ö1 presented the new compositions in their programme “Zeit-Ton” on Wednesday past (August 26, 2020). Presentator Rainer Elstner spoke with me about the works. Beim 66. Internationalen Rostrum of Composers in Argentinien wurde «Catalogue des Arts et Métiers», von Ö1 aufgenommen beim ORF musikprotokoll, unter die 10 «recommended works» gewählt. Damit ist weltweites Airplay garantiert: Die 27 teilnehmenden öffentlich-rechtlichen Radiostationen präsentieren die prämierten Werke in ihren Sendungen. Somit ist das Rostrum die weltweit reichweitenstärkste Plattform für Aufnahmen zeitgenössischer Musik. Gewonnen hat mit Petra Strahovnik erstmals eine Einreichung aus Slowenien. «Catalogue des Arts et Métiers» beim 66. International Rostrum of Composers
Zum 66. Mal findet 2019 das internationale Rostrum of Composers statt — in diesem Jahr erstmals außerhalb Europas in Bariloche, Argentinien. Das Forum des internationen Musikrats der UNESCO wurde 1949 gegründet. Über 30 Rundfunkanstalten nehmen auch in diesem Jahr am IRC und reichen jeweils aktuelle Aufnahmen in den letzten Jahren entstandener Kompositionen ein. Das IRC versteht sich als Forum der Vernetzung und des Austauschs zeitgenössischer Musik durch nationale Rundfunkanstalten auf internationaler Ebene und ist laut eigener Beschreibung die «wichtigste Plattform zur Förderung zeitgenössischer Musik via Radio mit etwa 800 Ausstrahlungen der ausgewählten Werke in der letzten Saison».
Für das diesjährige Rostrum of Composers wurde u.a. meine Komposition «Catalogue des Arts et Métiers» ausgewählt und durch den Radiosender Ö1 eingereicht. Die Aufnahme entstand im Rahmen des ORF musikprotokolls 2018 in der Grazer Helmut List Halle. Die Interpreten waren das Ensemble Zeitfluss unter der Leitung von Edo Micic. Die Erstausstrahlung des Konzertmitschnitts erfolgte in der von Rainer Elstner gestalteten Sendung «Zeit-Ton» am 9. Oktober 2018 in Ö1.
Klang als Geflecht von Beziehungen — Ö1 Kunstsonntag mit Richard Dünser
Richard Dünser präsentiert im Ö1-Kunstsonntag Musik, die ihn geprägt hat. Zu hören ist in der Sendung, die am 28. April 2019 in der Sendereihe »Zeit-Ton extended« ausgestrahlt wird Musik von Alexander Zemlinsky, Richard Dünser, Bernd Franke, Fabián Panisello und Ausschnitte aus meinem Violinkonzert »la Naïade«.
Radio Ö1 sendet am 9. Oktober 2018 in der Sendung »Zeit-Ton« den Mitschnitt des Konzerts vom 6. Oktober, welches im Rahmen des musikprotokolls stattfand. Am Programm standen die Werke »Catalogue des Arts et Métiers« von Christoph Renhart, welches an diesem Abend zur Uraufführung gelangte, sowie »like little … sunderings« der Komponistin Joanna Wozny und Klaus Langs 20-minütiges Werk »die heilige Clara und der schwarze Fisch«. Es spielte das Ensemble Zeitfluss unter der Leitung von Edo Micic.
Portrait-CD “Christoph Renhart” in der ORF Edition Zeitton erschienen
In der ORF Edition »Zeit-Ton« ist eine neue CD mit Werken von ChristophRenhart erschienen. Die CD stellt Kammermusik und Kompositionen für Orchester vor.
Zu hören sind Aufnahmen von »L’isola morta«, »la terra sommersa«, »miroirs noirs«, »Epitaph für Ovid Naso«, »Farben des Mohns« und »tarir une Naïade« — gespielt vom Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, dem Ensemble Kontrapunkte, dem Klangforum Wien, dem Hugo Wolf Quartett, Klaudia Tandl und Karin und Doris Adam. Zur CD ist ein 20-seitiges Booklet mit Informationen zu den Stücken erschienen. Das Titelbild schuf der österreichische Künstler Christoph Kiefhaber im Auftrag des ORF. Die CD ist ab sofort im ORF-Shop erhältlich.

The six pieces combined to a cycle «Lunar Clover», «The Chandelier», «The Horizon», «The Darkness», «The Pulsar» and «Uproar In The Belfry» form the first self-contained section of a book of oracles for the piano in 21 parts. The single pieces outline six fundamental pictures cast in sound: moonlight, soil, wind, water, stars and bells. In every piece, these archetypes are raising to the surface in varying degree. On the one hand the titles of the movements anticipate their musical contents as allusions to the fundamental images, on the other hand the movements are traced by an obscure mysteriousness: the music is replete with changes striving towards balance. Its silhouettes pupate in phantasmagorias—finding space for the auditor to listen to its murky secrets. The oracle is to be consulted.
The first book of oracles was written in the summer of 2018 and is cordially dedicated to Richard Dünser.

Die sechs zu einem durchkomponierten Zyklus zusammengefassenten Stücke »Mondklee«, »Der Kerzenleuchter«, »Der Horizont«, »Die Finsternis«, »Der Pulsar« und »Aufruhr im Belfried« sind der erste, in sich abgeschlossene Abschnitt eines 21-teiligen Orakelbuchs für Klavier. Die einzelnen Stücke umreißen, in aphoristische Konturen gefasst, sechs zu Klang gegossene Grundbilder: Mondlicht, Erde, Wind, Wasser, Sterne und Glocken. In jedem Stück dringen diese Archetypen verschieden stark an die Oberfläche. Die Titel der Sätze nehmen einerseits als Allusionen zu den Grundbildern ihre musikalischen Inhalte voraus, andererseits zeichnet die Sätze stets eine obskure Rätselhaftgkeit: Diese Musik ist voller Wandlungen im Streben nach Balance. Ihre Silhouetten verpuppen sich in Trugbildern, die Raum auftun, hineinzuhören. Das Orakel will befragt sein.
Das erste Heft meines Orakelbuchs entstand im Sommer 2018 und ist Richard Dünser herzlich gewidmet.
Catalogue des Arts et Métiers was composed in 2018. It was premiered at the ORF musikprotokoll 2018 by the Ensemble Zeitfluss conducted by Edo Micic. The recording of the premiere was successfully presented at the 66th International Rostrum of Composers in San Carlos di Bariloche, Argentine. The work was awarded the title recommended work at this competition organised by the International Music Council.
One of Paris’s most exciting places is sited in the Rue Réaumur 60. The Musée des Arts et Métiers is not only a harbourage to many technical exhibits and industrial products – it is also the stage in Eco’s grand novel Il pendolo di Foucault. A venue full of stories and a panopticon of ideas that once became manifest.
My work revisits the yellowed tales that might be borne in all those objects, cars, tins, rackwheels, periscopes and displays them in a ‘sonic catalogue’. In three parts that are each named after a raw material, we hear about the colourful world of metals – bunte Welt der Metalle, about the sound of silk – Klang nach Seide and about the imperial grace of marble. Meanwhile, hammering rhythms are advancing – naturalistically contouring monotonic manufacturing processes. Yet, they seem to keep an ironising distance to the delicate and occasionally Mannerist passages at the same moment. Both idylls are delusions and turn out to be idealised illustrations. One could easily get bedazzled by the goldsmithery cast in the sounds of the celesta and sucked into the swirls of the marching tuttis. On that note everything is bound to end in smoke. An ignis fatuus evaporating.
Lizard Point for tenor recorder, accordion, percussion and violoncello (2018)
Nomen est omen. To sum up the mystery: «Der Name ist Programm». «Lizard Point» was written in 2018 for the EXPAN quartet to be performed at the EXPAN festival 2018 in Spittal an der Drau / Carinthia. On the one hand the piece was inspired by the structure of computer languages. Its musical form is infused with if … then conditions and do … while loops. Thus the piece will differ in its shape from performance to performance. On the other hand I included a short section where the musicians are asked to improvise—for the very first time in my compositions. Perhaps I was looking for a way to combine mechanical patterns with liberalness and linked both instances with abstruse humour. At any rate, the piece is all about celebrating the principles of chamber music: playing together and reacting to whatever is happening on the stage. Besides, Lizard Point is the most southerly point on mainland Great Britain.
